The Alabama Department of Insurance requires that all renewals be processed electronically. Effective September 29, 2008, the National Insurance Producers Register (NIPR) will process online renewals through its website. The Alabama Department of Insurance will not accept paper renewal forms. All paper renewal forms will be returned and you will be directed to use the online process.

AS OF 10/1/2014 - ALL RENEWAL NOTICES ARE NOW EMAILED TO ALL LICENSE USERS THAT NEED RENEWAL. EMAIL ADDRESSES MUST BE CURRENT, OR AS PER LAW, VIOLATION OF EMAIL ADDRESSES MAY RESULT IN PENALTIES.

Renewals will be reviewed and processed within ten business days.

ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

Manufacturer (individuals)

Individual producer licenses are renewed in the month of the producer's birth every two years based on the producer's year of birth. Effective 1/1/2019, a license can be renewed as early as 90 days before the end of the licensee's birth month and within a grace period of 30 days after the last day of the birth month with a late fee of $50 plus the regular renewal fee. If not renewed before the end of the grace period, the license will expire.

Upon license expiration, you have the right to renew your license for a period of more than 30 days after the expiration of up to 12 months from the last day of your birth month without having to complete a previous license course or pass a written exam by paying two renewal fees, and for residents by completing the necessary CE. However, you must complete the reissue process through NIPR, starting on our website (www.aldoi.gov) on the home page under Manufacturers/Agents, the Renew Your License link, then click on the license type, then Renew Your License Residents.

In order to complete your license renewal, you will need to complete continuing education requirements before completing the online renewal process. To ensure that all of your continuing education credits are reported to the Alabama Department of Insurance, please review your continuing education records(click here to view the CE record).

Effective 1-1-19 CE extensions are no longer allowed and the CE must be shown on the CE transcript in order for the producer to renew the license. Please note that it may generally take 3-5 days after alignment for the CE information to be updated in the NIPR database for you to renew.

Current CE exemptions:

(b) Any producer whose license is limited to acting only as a producer for credit insurance, rental vehicle insurance, crop services, portable electronics, travel, motorcycle clubs, dental services and legal services or any combination thereof.
(c) Any nonresident producer or service representative who must meet continuing education requirements in his state of residence. Home state requirements may be used to meet this state's continuing education requirements if that state recognizes reciprocity with Alabama's continuing education requirements. A nonresident whose home state does not have a continuing education requirement or whose home state does not recognize reciprocity with Alabama's continuing education requirements must meet this state's continuing education requirements.
(d) Newly licensed manufacturers and service representatives 12 months after the effective date of their license.

NOTE:

Please note that as of January 1, 2013, exemptions from the old CE are allowed:

(e) Any individual exempt from the educational requirements of Ala. Code § 27-8A-1 immediately before January 1, 2013, so long as the individual remains exempt under the law at that time, unless the license is allowed to expire or otherwise ceases and remains inoperative for a period of 12 consecutive months, in which in which case the exemption is no longer applicable. In order to maintain an exemption from the continuing education requirement, an individual must submit a statement and dated proof that the exemption being claimed applied prior to January 1, 2013 and remains in effect at the time of license renewal. Any change to the claimed exemption, such as loss of certification or position, will result in the loss of the claimed exemption for subsequent renewal periods. Individuals may request an exemption if any of the following apply in accordance with the above conditions:

1. Any person licensed to carry only limited lines insurance, industrial fire, commonly known as debit fire, insurance or any combination thereof prior to January 1, 2013.
2. All manufacturers and service representatives licensed in this state for 15 years and at least 60 years of age or older prior to January 1, 2013.
3. Any person who, before January 1, holds the designation of an authorized property and casualty insurer, authorized insurance advisor, authorized life insurer, authorized financial advisor, authorized financial planner, registered health insurer, registered employee benefits advisor, authorized health advisor or associate manager of risks, 2013 (encyclopedic entry).
4. Employees of insurers who are not engaged in active sales of products until 01.01.2013.
5. Persons who are active members of the Alabama Legislature during any part of the two-year reporting period prior to January 1, 2013.

After renewing your license, you will be able to print one free copy of your license.Please allow a processing time of at least 24 hours before printing your license.

Business subject

Producer business entity licenses are renewed every two years. Manufacturer businesses are allowed to renew their license online between October 15th and December 31st (EVEN YEARS) for a $100 renewal fee. If you fail to renew by January 1st, a $50 late fee will be added to the regular renewal fee. If the license is not renewed before January 30 (odd years), the license will expire.

If you fail to renew by this date, you will need to reapply online with a new application and licensing fees.

Surplus intermediaries (individuals)

Surplus Line Broker licenses are renewed annually. Surplus Line Broker - Individuals can renew their license online between October 1st and December 31st for a $200 renewal fee. If the license is not renewed before January 1, the license will expire.

Suplus Line Broker Business entity

Surplus line broker-business entity licenses are renewed once a year. Suplus Line Broker-Business entities are allowed to renew their license online between October 1st and December 31st for a $500 renewal fee. If the license is not renewed before January 1, the license will expire.

Adjuster (rezident)

Adjuster licenses are renewed every two years. As of 1/1/2019, regulators are allowed to renew their license online from 90 days before the month of birth to the last day of the month of birth, for a renewal fee of $80. If your license is not renewed by the last day of the month of birth, the license receives a 30 day grace period with a $40.00 late fee plus an $80.00 renewal fee. If your license is not renewed by the last day of your birth month or your 30-day grace period, your license will then expire and have a 365-day reinstatement period from the last day of your birth month for a fee of $160.00.

BEGINNING APRIL 1, 2015, IF THE CE TRANSLATION DOES NOT HAVE A CE FOR THE PERSON WISHING RENEWAL, THE ONLINE RENEWAL APPLICATION WILL BE REJECTED, AND THE APPLICANT WILL HAVE TO RE- SUBMIT A NEW RENEWAL REQUEST WITH THE APPROPRIATE FEES ONCE THE CE APPEARS ON THEIR TRANSCRIPTS.

Adjuster (non-resident)

Adjuster licenses are renewed every two years. As of 1/1/2019, regulators are allowed to renew their license online from 90 days before the month of birth to the last day of the month of birth, for a renewal fee of $80. If your license is not renewed by the last day of the month of birth, the license receives a 30 day grace period with a $40.00 late fee plus an $80.00 renewal fee. If your license is not renewed by the last day of your birth month or your 30-day grace period, your license will then expire and have a 365-day reinstatement period from the last day of your birth month for a fee of $160.00.

If you are a non-resident from a state that does not license Adjusters and have a Designated Home State, you can renew your license online through NIPR, using your Designated Home State.

NON-RESIDENT MANAGERS WHO HAVE SATISFIED CE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS IN THEIR STATE OF RESIDENCE OR CERTAIN CE REQUIREMENTS IN THEIR HOME STATE ARE EXEMPT HERE.

Reinsurance intermediary

Licensees of reinsurance intermediaries shallNObe able to renew electronically. You must complete Form AL-RI-1 and return it to the Department of Insurance along with the amount owed.

Service representative licenses are renewed in the individual's birth month every two years based on the licensee's year of birth. Effective 1/1/2019, a license can be renewed as early as 90 days before the end of the licensee's birth month and within a grace period of 30 days after the last day of the birth month with a late fee of $50 plus the regular renewal fee. If not renewed before the end of the grace period, the license will expire.

Name of insurance agent

Individual title insurance agents are renewed in the principal agent's month of birth every two years based on the principal agent's year of birth. The license may be renewed beginning 75 days before the expiration date and within a grace period of 30 days after the expiration date for a fee of $90. If not renewed before the end of the grace period, the license will expire.

After your license expires, you are eligible to reinstate your license for a period of 12 months from the last day of your month of birth without having to complete a pre-license course or pass a written exam, however, you must complete the re-issuance process through the NIPR.

Renewal of previously required sales agent registrations

Renewal of registration of previously required sales agents must be processed electronically through the National Producer Register (NIPR). Electronic processing through NIPR is mandatory. Clickherefor instructions on how to renew online through NIPR.
